This Online Exclusive Module explores research that offers potential insight into why mothers are unable to meet their own breastfeeding goals and has world-wide implications as the use of fentanyl as an epidural anesthetic increases around the world. It will encourage you to reflect on the differences in the expected behaviors and care of the skin-to-skin newborn in hospitals after exposure to common labor medications and explore changes in practice that would optimize the care of the newborn who has been exposed to common labor medications in multiple contexts.
